Calling all MM's
Hi,
So I,ve been playing a necro before the nerfbat hit the MM bad and we were only allowed to have ten minions...But I've stopped playing Guildwars since the release of Nightfall. So I recently started again and I was wondering is MM still a viable build with the release of nightfall and all. My build is N/Mo Flesh golem, vampiric horror, bone horror, blood of master, verates sacrifice, heal area, rebirth, and taste of death...Please comment...but be nice.
Peace out...

Nightfall gave some useful tools to the minion master:
[skill]signet of lost souls[/skill] : energy management
[skill]animate shambling horror[/skill] : minion bomber's friend
[skill]order of undeath[/skill] : fleshie, get out of my bar
[skill]jagged bones[/skill] : effective if you can micro manage
See the thread next to yours for a refreshing mobile approch of the Minion master (Necro/Paragon).

That's indeed the pre-nerf build
Nowadays it's much better to let Olias handle the MM'ing.

olias is terrible at MMing, he usually handles only about 4 at a time.
The bar I use is:
flesh golem
bone fiend
vampiric horror
shambling horror
blood of the master
signet of lost souls
heal area
rebirth
Attributes:
16 death magic
healing prayer until heal area heals 100.
4 in protection.
rest in soul reaping, should bring it to about 10 or so.
This bar works perfectly if youre good , ive been using it for months and its what ive come up with after months of trial and error, switching aaround skills to see whats best. GL

People who say Olias sucks at MMing simply can't create a good bar for him to use. Of course he's going to be worthless with a bar consisting of four minions, one with 30 seconds recharge, one with 25, one with 15, and one with 5 seconds recharge costing 25e.
As a side note, so will a human player.

this is the new age MM, as long as you control 8-10 mm at a time, you are invincible. In AB, I can tank 3 sp sins and survived unscratched.
I have infuse condition on my bar, this will annoyed sf ele, condition heavy ranger and sin to death.
Hopefully, anet won't find a way to nerf this build.

I'd like to see you try using [skill=text]Death Nova[/skill] better than a hero.

No worries, it's not used in GvG or HA.

My Olias bar:
[skill]Animate Flesh Golem[/skill][skill]Animate Shambling Horror[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Fiend[/skill][skill]Death Nova[/skill][skill]Healing Ring[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill][skill]Blood of the Master[/skill][skill]Verata's Sacrifice[/skill]
Works a charm.
I know there are some holes in it... but I have reasons for leaving them there.
I use [skill]Animate Flesh Golem[/skill] instead of [skill]Order of Undeath[/skill] simply because I don't think Olias could handle that level of health sacrifice so well (I don't know to be honest).... plus I haven't unlocked OoU yet.
Death Nova is in there because Olias uses it VERY well.
Healing Ring I use rather than Heal Area... ironically enough... primarily because it doesn't heal Olias himself. I used to have Heal Area in there, but I found Olias kept running out of energy because he spammed it constantly, then couldn't raise new minions fast enough. Healing Ring costs less, takes longer to recharge... and since it doesn't heal HIM, he doesn't have the inclination to spam it as much. It still heals Minions perfectly well without needing to sacrifice health though.
Rebirth.... because the Monks are too busy healing to res people much of the time, and Olias seems to like it (he is always the first on the task when someone dies). Not only that... but Olias is excellent at preventing total wipeout.
Naturally... due to the nature of my build, the job falls to the monks to keep Olias healed.... but since the monks in question are generally henchies, that isn't really a problem. I reckon if I got OoU and tried it then it might become problematic.

Jagged Bones > Flesh Golem on Olias.
As for OoU... I didn't think their AI could use it well enough so I've never tried. But when I use it on my human MM I use Vampiric Horrors to offset the sacrifice.

[skill]jagged bones[/skill] only for Olias...far too hard to be targeting your own minions to be effective.
[skill]animate flesh golem[/skill]...overrated
[skill]order of undeath[/skill] or [skill]aura of the lich[/skill] is the way to go...much better way to maintain your full 10

Is it really too much effort anyway to click OoU every now and then? The health loss is very minor, even with 10 minions and can be countered easily.

Given the ideal max HP range for an MM (around 400) the sacrifice will only be about 200 points, or around 50%, on your worst (or rather, best) day. Yes, it's easily counterable. However in fact I do believe the cost for this spell could be adjusted downward. True, it's a powerful spell, but it was designed for an era when we were bathing in energy, and that is no longer so.
However, this will never happen, just as OoA will never get cut from its insane 25e cost.
And the above said, it's still by far the best MM elite in my opinion.

[skill]Jagged Bones[/skill] is for Razah.
[skill]Animate Flesh Golem[/skill] is for Olias.
Jagged Bones is a Minion Bomber skill.
Animate Flesh Golem is a Minion Master skill.
Maybe I'll try with Order of Undeath on Olias once I unlock it.... but Jagged Bones is a waste of time when there are plenty of corpses around.... UNLESS one is going through minions like hot-cakes... which is where Razah comes in.
Why Razah?
Explosive Growth much?
Boon of Creation maybe?
[Besides... the level of a monster doesn't matter much when its purpose is to be a walking bomb]

Flesh Golem IS overrated. A Bone Fiend has stronger DPS, and while the Flesh Golem has more health (for tanking) the only time you will ever need it is when you are starting your army (all of 30 seconds?). They really need to raise the damage of FG or something. It's trash.
MM's that adamantly use FG are kicked from my parties.

^ I would only try for a higher max HP on an MM running AotL, and even then I find it mostly pointless. I do not understand the obsession from some PvP players with running high HP builds for almost anything.
Sacrificing health is a lot more comfortable if you're running a moderate max HP, also Olias seems to handle the sacrificing better at a max HP around 400. The extra 50-100 HP do not mean much from a survivability standpoint, ESPECIALLY for an MM running several powerful self-protection spells.
At max 400 my Olias is still almost always the last in the party to bite it. If there are no corpses the MM is useless anyway, which means you are perfectly excused to avoid combat. If there are corpses, the MM is mostly invincible unless we are talking about an area with very high enchant and energy-denial threats.
